Magical Mini Masterpieces
After spending some time going through YouTube playlists and finally finding one, I started setting up my sketchbook and pens when I remembered some watercolor paints I bought ages ago. While digging them out, I also came across a set of cute 1" square canvases I had never used—today felt like the perfect time to try them.
I didn’t have a plan for these tiny paintings; I just started to paint. The watercolor was a bit tricky on the canvas. When I tried creating washes and letting the paint bleed, the water just beaded up. Still, I experimented with different approaches and let go of the worry about messing it up. After all, this is supposed to be fun.
Here they are!

Always Learning
My biggest drawback so far has been finding the right music to listen to.
When I chose this topic for my genius hour project, I was envisioning something different than what I’ve completed so far. I was inspired by some soundbath experiences I had last year with a sound healing practitioner.
She had a gorgeous collection of instruments. My favorite was a large, beautiful drum attached to a massage table. I would lie underneath it while she played. Other instruments she had included a xylophone, chimes, crystal and Tibetan singing bowls and a huge gong. She would play the instruments during our 45-minute sessions, and I would experience vivid, dreamy visuals of fairies and dragons, the galaxy and even the beating heart of the earth.
After the sessions, I’d write about the experience, turning the imagery into stories. I’ve looked back at these stories and don’t remember writing them, kind of like forgetting a dream.
This experience hasn’t happened during my genius hour project, and I wonder: Is it the music I’ve been using or does the magic happen during and in-person sound bath with no distractions or to-do lists?
I have booked an in-person sound healing this week, and I plan to write afterward (if I experience anything).
I’ll report back!
One more thing I learned this week when it comes to blogging, document everything! After I finished my mini paintings, I only had a few photos of the final result. It would have been more engaging if I had captured the process with photos and videos - especially for a blog about creativity!
