The Sound Journey Continues!

I can’t believe it’s already the last week of this class - time has flown by! I really enjoyed working on my Genius Hour project. I think the concept is awesome, and I can definitely see myself using it in my future teaching practice. My biggest challenge was carving out one hour per week. I learned alot about myself during this project. Even though I consider myself a creative person and, believe it’s important for all of us to tap into creativity on a regular basis, it was challenging for me to make space purely for curiosity and creative expression. But when I did – I really liked the results. My six mini paintings would not have existed, my cute whale drawing, and … I even recorded and produced an audio track, which is my final project piece. Check it out in the My Project Tab of this blog. I had a lot of fun creating this piece. I learned about GarageBand , recording and music editing. For this audio, I actually had a session where I was lying down and meditating while H...

Magical Mini Masterpieces

After spending some time going through YouTube playlists and finally finding one, I started setting up my sketchbook and pens when I remembered some watercolor paints I bought ages ago. While digging them out, I also came across a set of cute 1" square canvases I had never used—today felt like the perfect time to try them. I didn’t have a plan for these tiny paintings; I just started to paint. The watercolor was a bit tricky on the canvas. When I tried creating washes and letting the paint bleed, the water just beaded up. Still, I experimented with different approaches and let go of the worry about messing it up. After all, this is supposed to be fun. Here they are! Photos by Esther Sanchez , July, 2025 Always Learning My biggest drawback so far has been finding the right music to listen to. When I chose this topic for my genius hour project, I was envisioning something different than what I’ve completed so far. I was inspired by some soundbath experiences I had...

Soundscapes Week One - Mountain Waves

I finally had some free time to get to the fun part of my Genuis Hour project, this is what I’ve been most excited about since I started this blog exercise. It’s been too long since I’ve created anything just for fun and I miss it. This topic - connecting music with imagination, has reignited my relationship with the mysterious source of creativity we are all connected to. I believe it would be beneficial for all of us to intentionally carve out time and space to cultivate this connection. The playlist I chose to listen to this week is by traumscape on Youtube. It is a steady flow of rhythmic drumming and ambient background sounds and quickly got me into a creative flow. After listening for 30 min, I drew some warmup sketches with pencil and kept the music on to stay in the flow. I liked where one sketch was going so that is the one I followed. It became a whale swimming in the sky with mountains in the background. My art teacher would insist on giving this drawing a creative name ...

Welcome to my Blog

Hello, welcome to my Genius hour blog! In this blog, I will be documenting my journey of connecting music with imagination and exploring the creativity emerges. I’ve had many experiences with sound journeying where I feel like I travel to other realms. Through this Genius Hour Project, I hope to intentionally explore these imaginal spaces and see what art I create afterwards. My Genius Hour question is: "How can using music intentionally for one hour per week inspire my creativity and the art I create?" Join me on my Soundscape Dream adventures into art and sound – I will be posting my creations here come back to check it out!
