The Sound Journey Continues!
I can’t believe it’s already the last week of this class - time has flown by! I really enjoyed working on my Genius Hour project. I think the concept is awesome, and I can definitely see myself using it in my future teaching practice.
My biggest challenge was carving out one hour per week.
I learned alot about myself during this project. Even though I consider myself a creative person and, believe it’s important for all of us to tap into creativity on a regular basis, it was challenging for me to make space purely for curiosity and creative expression. But when I did – I really liked the results. My six mini paintings would not have existed, my cute whale drawing, and … I even recorded and produced an audio track, which is my final project piece. Check it out in the My Project Tab of this blog.
I had a lot of fun creating this piece. I learned about GarageBand, recording and music editing. For this audio, I actually had a session where I was lying down and meditating while Helen played. The purpose of this recording is to for you to do the same. Take some quiet time for yourself, take some deep breaths, soak in the sounds, and create something. Draw, paint or just doodle. This is YOU time.
If I had more time for my TED Talk, I would have done more takes of the voiceover and used original visuals rather than stock, especially since the topic has to do with creativity and the imagination.
Where do I go from here?
I am going to continue carving out a weekly hour for creativity. I’d like to record more sound journey tracks and possibly uploading them to Insight Timer for others to meditate, relax or get creative with. First, I’d like to get more comfortable with GarageBand, the program I used for my TED Talk. I’ve asked my friend Helen (the sound practitioner I mentioned in the talk) if I could record some sound sessions, and she’s in! I’m also planning to record the Tambour Unité drum I talked about.
Overall, I really enjoyed this process and found it rewarding. Check back – maybe you’ll find some of my new music!
Thanks, Esther
